Registration begins Tuesday, 19 July

FootBowl Tailgate Party
Saturday, 20 August • 3 pm

The Kadena FootBowl League can be enjoyed by bowlers of all skill levels ages 18 and over.

The league is compiled of 32 teams of four with each team carrying the name of their favorite professional football team. Every week, each team will bowl three games against the team that their assigned professional team will play that week. So for example, if the Cleveland Browns play against the Pittsburg Steelers in real life, then those bowling teams will bowl against each other that week. To find out which team you will be assigned to, you have to be there for the draft! The draft will be held at the annual Tailgate Party at Emery Lanes. The choosing teams are selected in the order in which their franchise fee was received. So pay early to have a better chance at choosing your favorite team! Franchise fees will be accepted until the day of the Tailgate party.

Speaking of a Tailgate party, on Saturday, 20 August at 3 pm come down to Emery Lanes for an entertaining afternoon! Emery Lanes will be grilling up burgers and hot dogs on their outdoor grill for all participants. There will also be live entertainment and fun sports-themed games. It’s a great way to kick off the Football season, so throw on your jerseys, hum the ESPN theme song and get ready for some FootBowl!

Skoshi Warrior is a fun-filled day for kids to experience the deployment process that mom and dad go through, but with a lot more fun! Our Skoshi Warriors will process through a mock deployment line, then “deploy.” They will complete a mission filled with fun obstacle courses, weapon displays, face painting and more!

Deployments are never easy. It’s an emotionally challenging time for the whole family, especially for children. Skoshi Warrior gives kids a better understanding of the transitions and offers ways to cope and be resilient in the absence of their parents. Skoshi Warrior is a fun, hands-on learning experience that’s beneficial for the entire family!

Featured Entertainer: John Legend

Screen Shot 2015-10-22 at 1.36.03 PM

Ohio-born John Legend is a critically acclaimed, multi-award winning, platinum-selling singer-songwriter. His work has garnered him nine Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, the BET Award for Best New Artist and the special Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame, among others.  A graduate of University of Pennsylvania where he studied English and African-American literature, Legend participated in a wide range of musical activities while in college. During the same period, Legend was introduced to Lauryn Hill, who hired him to play piano on her track “Everything Is Everything,” and shortly thereafter he began to play shows around the Philadelphia area, eventually expanding his audience base to New York, Boston, Atlanta and Washington D.C. After college, Legend was introduced to then up-and-coming hip-hop artist Kanye West, who quickly signed Legend to his G.O.O.D. Music imprint and hired him to sing vocal hooks on some of his music. Legend started gaining momentum through a series of similar collaborations with established artists, adding vocals to an impressive list of chart-topping hits including West’s “All of the Lights,” Jay-Z’s “Encore” and back-up vocals on Alicia Keys’ 2003 song, “You Don’t Know My Name.” Legend’s debut album, Get Lifted, was released in December of 2004 through Columbia Records. The critically acclaimed album spawned the artist’s first hit single, “Ordinary People,” and scored Legend multiple Grammy Awards in 2006, including Best R&B Album, Best New Artist and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. The follow up was 2006’s platinum-selling Once Again, which brought Legend another Grammy, Best Male R&B Performance, for his single “Heaven,” and included collaborations with Kanye West, will.i.am and Raphael Saadiq. Legend’s next release was 2008’s Evolver, led by the hit single “Green Light” featuring Andre 3000. His 2010 collaboration with the Roots, Wake Up, won the Grammy for Best R&B Album a year later. Legend’s highly acclaimed fourth and most current studio album Love In the Future, features  “All of Me,” Legend’s highest selling and charting song to date, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #1 on both Mainstream Top 40 and Rhythmic charts.  Most recently, Legend won his first Academy Award, first Golden Globe Award, and won the 2015 Critic’s Choice Award for his song “Glory,” that he wrote and performed with Common, for the film SELMA.

Throughout his career, Legend has worked to make a difference in the lives of others. In 2007, he launched the Show Me Campaign (ShowMeCampaign.org), an initiative that focuses on education as a key to break the cycle of poverty. The 2010 BET Humanitarian of the Year award, the 2009 CARE Humanitarian Award for Global Change, the 2009 Bishop John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Service Award from Africare and the 2011 Harvard Foundation Artist of the Year Award recognize Legend’s efforts and leadership in this arena. John sits on the boards of The Education Equality Project, Teach for America, Stand for Children and the Harlem Village Academies and co-chairs the Harlem Village Academies’ National Leadership Board. Additionally, Legend supports LRNG, a movement dedicated to inspiring innovation in the learning process to one that better reflects the world we live in today. In 2015 Legend initiated the #freeAmerica campaign; a campaign designed the change the national conversation of our country’s misguided policies and to make a change in America’s criminal justice system. Legend also serves as one of the principles for Get Lifted Film Co., a film and television production company based in Los Angeles. Get Lifted Film Co. has sold several projects in television to networks including Showtime, NBC, HBO, USA, MTV, OWN and FOX. In addition to these sales, Get Lifted Film Co. was previously in a television deal with Comcast/Universal and is currently in an overdeal with Legendary Television. Get Lifted Film Co. serves as Executive Producers on the HBO documentary “Southern Rites” and Pop Network docu-series “Sing it On”, both which premiered in May 2015.  Additionally, Get Lifted Film Co. has several projects in various stages of development/production including “The Black Count” (2014 Pulitzer Prize Winner) to be written and directed by Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) for Sony Pictures, and an upcoming project with producer Will Packer and Universal Pictures.

Thursday, July 23 • Doors open at 4 pm, show starts at 5 pm

What can I expect?

Tickets and Location

Tops in Blue is a free event held at the Keystone Theater.  All seats are first come, first served.

Coolers, glass, or any alcohol, smoking, backpacks, pets, knives or any type of weapon are strictly prohibited.

Tops In Blue, is an all-active duty US Air Force special unit made up of talented amateur performers selected for their entertainment abilities.

Tops In Blue is one of the oldest and most widely traveled entertainment groups of its kind.  Composed of 35 to 40 of the most talented vocalists, musicians, dancers, and techncians anywhere, their primary purpose is to perform for military personnel and their families throughout the world.  However, the enormous popularity of the group has also made them America’s goodwill ambassadors around the globe.

Each team begins their tour with an intense 60-day training period at   Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, “Home of Tops In Blue”.

This training consists of a highly accelerated educational process to prepare them to succeed as world-class entertainers and distinguished Air Force Ambassadors during the 10-month tour. The performers must master the instrumental, vocal, choreography, and staging requirements of the show. In addition, they also must become highly accomplished in the intricate technical skills needed to support the tour.
They are in essence their own “road crew”. Under the guidance of five technical personnel, the performing team is responsible for setting up over 60,000 pounds of staging, lighting, audio, video and special effects equipment required for each performance.

Tops In Blue has a distinctive history, spanning 60 years. Since its first world tour in 1953, the group has also performed on film, produced albums, and appeared on national television with such legends as Ed Sullivan, Bob Hope, Alabama, Barbara Mandrell, BOYZ II MEN, Lee Greenwood, and many others. They performed the entire half-time shows for the 1981 Garden State Bowl and Super Bowl XIX. Tops In Blue has appeared in front of hundreds of thousands of fans at NASCAR events. In 2005, they performed the National Anthem for Game 6 of the NBA Finals, and in 2011, they performed with Lea Michele of “Glee” at Super Bowl XLV. Tops In Blue has performed for heads of state and dignitaries throughout the world. They have toured throughout Western, Central, and Eastern Europe, the Far East, Middle East, Central America, Southwest Asia, Canada, and all 50 of the United States. Countries such as Taiwan, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Iceland, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Albania, Vietnam, Cuba, Africa and Iraq have all experienced the extraordinary entertainment of Tops In Blue.

If the first 60 years are any indication of what is to come, the next 60 years will exceed all expectations as Tops In Blue continues to bring a touch of home, a touch of America, and above all, the pride of the Air Force to all their audiences.
